The President of eAtlantic, Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu, invited to the think tank that brings together over 200 leading figures from the European and international scene

The eAtlantic Foundation, chaired by Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu, will take part in the State of Europe, the Festival of Ideas, to be held in Brussels on 15 and 16 October, bringing together more than 200 key figures from the European and international scene. The event will be attended by current members of the European Commission, as well as representatives of European and international institutions, members of parliaments, civil society, and opinion leaders, all by invitation.

Among the prominent participants are Antonio Costa, President of the European Council; Irina Zaharieva, European Commissioner for Start-ups, Research and Innovation; Enrico Letta, President of the Jacques Delors Institute and author of the report The Future of the European Market; and María Fernanda Espinosa, President of the 73rd United Nations General Assembly.

Under the motto “Europe matters: now or never”, the Festival of Politics and Ideas takes place at a critical moment for the European project, as current geopolitical dynamics are putting its very viability to the test. Participants are called to debate the challenges facing Europe, and the bold policies and proposals needed to restore direction and “renew the promise of Europe: a fairer society, strong global leadership, and genuine concern for all its citizens.”

Meeting with the Jacques Delors Foundation and Friends of Europe

With its participation in this Brussels event, the eAtlantic Foundation is making its international debut, before representatives of EU institutions and leading think tanks. Over both days, Lehendakari Urkullu will be accompanied by Marian Elorza, General Director , and Juanjo Álvarez, Principal Researcher.

The programme for Thursday 16 October includes a round-table discussion addressing four main themes: Competitiveness and security: the defining nexus; Transitions matter, speed matters more; The EU budget: a test of political leadership; Europe’s choices, Europe’s future.

On the eve of the session, a gala dinner at the Palace of Fine Arts in Brussels will provide an opportunity for participants to establish connections and create spaces for collaboration and trust.

During this dinner, the merger between the Jacques Delors Foundation and Friends of Europe, formally completed on 20 July, will be presented. This think tank aims to promote understanding of Europe and disseminate the ideas of Jacques Delors, analyse current European affairs, and develop proposals for decision-makers and European citizens, as well as contribute to debates on the European Union.

The eAtlantic Foundation maintains a close relationship with this important organisation, and in that context, its three representatives attending the event are scheduled to hold a meeting on 16 October with Geert Camy, Pascal Lamy, and the board of the newly merged entity.
