The eAtlantic Foundation is convening its Advisory Committee to launch the project Europe and the Global South from a Sub-State Perspective, with the support of the Ford Foundatio. The meeting will take place on 21 and 22 January in Bilbao and will bring together experts from a wide range of sectors in Latin America, Africa and Europe.
The project aims to promote dialogue between actors from Europe and countries of the Global South, particularly at the level of sub-state authorities — understood as regional and devolved governments, federated states and regions, as well as local authorities — together with civil society organisations, the private sector, churches and other relevant stakeholders on both sides.
It also seeks to ensure that this dialogue contributes to translating local and regional initiatives and debates into the national sphere and, from there, into the multilateral arena. The project is inspired by the vision of the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, of an inclusive and participatory multilateralism, based on multi-level diplomacy.

Themes for discussion

The challenges facing international human rights regimes

The governance of migration from both Northern and Southern perspectives

The management of the environmental crisis and regional transitions towards green economies

Cities and liveability, ensuring equal rights and opportunities for present and future generations
